Workforce Development

Belknap EDC is a leader in workforce development programming in the region. Our economic vitality depends on a skilled workforce to help our businesses grow and succeed.

200 by 2020

Through the 200 by 2020 Initiative, an outstanding local workforce development partnership initiated by the United Way and the Lakes Region Chamber of Commerce in 2010, Belknap EDC spearheaded the creation of lakesregioninternships.com. This online database of internships and job shadows has grown quickly to include more than 100 internship and job shadow opportunities and is a valuable tool and resource for our local high school students and teachers. All local high schools are now using the database as a way to connect students and businesses to grow our local workforce for future career opportunities.

Each year hundreds of area students participate in tours of local manufacturers and Lakes Region Community College learning more about cutting edge careers in advanced manufacturing.
Internships & Job Shadows

We are pleased to provide lakesregioninternships.com, a searchable database of internship and job shadow opportunities specifically for high school students, to our community. This is a fantastic workforce development tool for educators, students, and employers.

Mainstay Technologies developed the web-based software for us. We met our initial goal of launching the database in the fall of 2013 with at least 50 new internships and job shadows for our local high school students.

Entry & Mid-Level Job Openings by Industry

In fall 2013, Belknap EDC surveyed human resources departments at 20 local companies to learn more about the career opportunities that will be available to young people over the next five years. We are working on reaching out to employers in other industries, so stay tuned as we add more profiles to this list.
